Forklift Drama
31st of March 2015
Toompert Daman

Location (Ocean Docks - Los Santos) - It is no secret that forklift drivers are facing tough times in Los Santos ever since the forklift drivers went on strike December of last year. It used to be quite a popular job for the low educated citizens and for men and women who just moved to Los Santos. Things took a bad turn after forklift driver Ben Lewit, husband and father of two, got severely injured on the job November last year. While being alone on the job his forklift reportedly keeled over and exploded. His colleagues suspect he may have been under the influence of alcohol but foul play can’t be ruled out as local residents claim they heard gunshots prior to the explosion. Mr. Lewit was directly transported to County Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. His doctors state that Mr. Lewit is almost completely paralyzed but is in a stable condition, he is only able to communicate by moving his eyebrows.

The horrible ordeal caused the Sweeper, Trucker and Forklift Union (S.T.F.U.) to demand enhanced safety regulations for forklift drivers. So far, negotiations between S.T.F.U. and government officials didn’t produce any results. Fred Orky, spokesman for S.T.F.U., stated to our reporters that they have been trying to re-open the dialogue with the government officials without any success: “We have been doing whatever it takes to resolve this issue for months but we wonder if the authorities even WANT any kind solution” (F. Orky - S.T.F.U. spokesman).

No activity for forklift drivers in months now.

Last week things finally seemed to get back on the right path when Mayor Barney Phife announced that the dispute had been settled and forklift drivers could get back to work starting March 28th. Fred Orky: “I wonder how he came up with this baloney. An agreement hasn’t been reached, nobody is being compensated and certainly nothing has been settled! We will remain on strike!” Our reporters have tried to get a hold of the head of the Head of Los Santos Public Relations, Franz Capone, to hear their side of the story. His office stated that Mr. Capone was unavailable to comment on this issue because he conveniently was “out of town”, even though sources saw someone that looks an awful lot like him birdwatching in Santa Maria Beach.

Is it Mr. Capone?

That’s it for now, more as it unfolds!

San Andreas News would like to send our best wishes to Mr. Lewit and his family, we hope for a speedy recovery.
