Hey Lunatics,

During the past two months, we've been trying to balance the gameplay between gangs, factions, and civilians in order to maximize the fun for everybody. While doing that, we have come to the conclusion that removing the light roleplay was not supposed to happen, we should have adjusted it. In the past few weeks, we've been thinking of the right way to implement roleplay into the server and came to the conclusion that starting with the staff team and slowly moving it into the server is the right way.

This guide's sole purpose is to enlighten newcomers and help them out. Players must acknowledge some Roleplay basics in order to perform under the Dynamic Roleplay 2.0 theme.

Roleplaying is initially based purely on imagination and can be done without any kind of script. Roleplaying means "playing" a role as you would do in real life, but this time in a game. For instance, in real-life Law Enforcement Officers pursue individuals who violate the law, for whatever reason - you can become an officer in-game and do the same, you can roleplay as a cop and pull over gang members, speeders, etc. On the other hand, you can be a mobster and join any criminal organization, or you can be a robber and rob banks or people. Naturally, the cops would suspect you for it and there would be a pursuit, like in real life. This is basically our number one roleplay-based scenario on Lawless RP. However, killing someone and saying "I am a murderer, I'm crazy" with the sole intention of death-matching (killing someone without a roleplay reason) is NOT roleplay. That is death-matching and will be dealt with by the administration team, and this is where our RP-related rules' main purpose shines up. The terminology of the SA: MP Role-Play servers is as follows: Light, Medium, Heavy, and Dynamic. Dynamic RP 2.0 is a theme in which the players get to define how they want to roleplay, and how they do not want to roleplay. Certain rules such as Power-Gaming & Meta-Gaming will be taken lightly. However, following such rules is a must due to the fact that friendly actions will be taken in the near future. Good Role-Play is not objective, as it depends on the person, considering the fact that Roleplay can be detailed or none detailed. Good roleplay depends on the player's well-developed character. A character that you will or might have met one-day in-real-life, and that person's actions can be simply explained through /me and /do. There are so many examples of Role-Play Courses that can be initiated in-game.

In Character (IC): IC means that you're talking as your character. Basically, you're roleplaying at that moment. You can recognize when someone is talking IC when they haven't got any brackets or anything in their sentence. When you're IC, you're not allowed to:
  • Use emoticons such as (Hey mate thanks for the money xDD)
  • Use OOC References
  • Use Shortcuts such as (Hey m8 thnx 4 help)

Out of Character (OOC): OOC is when you're talking without your character, as in you're not playing the role of your character. You can talk out of character by using the /b command. However, commands such as /f, division chat commands, and staff chat commands are also OOC.

You're allowed to speak OOC'ly whenever you want through OOC channels. However, you are not allowed to mix your OOC with IC, which will be explained in detail below. You can recognize when someone is talking out of character when they have brackets "(( ))" in their sentence. Example:
(( Simon_Walker: Hello there ))

The difference between IC and OOC is very simple, yet crucial, and very important.

The answer will be pretty much similar to the first question. In addition to that; we will introduce several commands that are essential to Roleplaying in-game.

/me - The '/me' command is created especially for roleplay. You can use '/me' to describe specific actions initiated by your character and to make other players aware of what your character is doing
Usage:
  • /me smiles towards Jerome MacTavish -> Simon Walker smiles towards Jerome MacTavish
  • /me coughs -> Jerome MacTavish coughs
  • /me jumps towards Simon Walker - attempting to hit him in the face with his upper knee > Jerome MacTavish jumps towards Simon Walker - attempting to hit him in the face with his upper knee

/do - The '/do' command that describes your action when you initiate a '/me', or surroundings
Usage:
  • /me jumps towards Simon Walker - attempting to hit him in the face with his upper knee -> Jerome MacTavish jumps towards Simon Walker - attempting to hit him in the face with his upper knee
  • /do did I succeed in hitting you? -> Did I succeed in hitting you? ((Jerome MacTavish))
The '/do' was used to describe Jerome's action towards Simon.

The same concept applies to the following commands: '/L', '/S', '/w', '/d', '/pr', '/r', and '/sms' or '/T' - These commands are made to communicate IC'ly.

* OOC Hit - Placing a contract on another player with an out-of-character reason, without knowing their name, with no valid in-character reason, or multiple times for the same interaction.
* Entering a faction-restricted door - Entering a door that is not accessible for a player while being in a roleplay situation (While being shot or chased).

Death-Matching - Killing/attacking a player without a proper In-character (IC) reason.
• You cannot order someone to move away from a place that you do not own

Revenge-Killing - Returning to the same place or initiating a situation with a player/group of players that have killed you in the last 30 minutes.
Law enforcement officers are not allowed to return to where they have been killed even if another cop has requested for backup.
• This rule doesn't apply to the following: turf wars, bank robberies, crate island, faction/gang headquarters (for the specific gang). However, if they return to the same location without one of these specific things happening and assault their killer(s), it will be considered revenge killing.

Meta-Gaming - mixing Out Of Character (OOC) and In-character (IC) information/chats.
A few common examples:
• Using shortcuts or emojis on the IC chat (fku, xd, :s etc').
• Using foreign language on the IC chats.
• Using an OOC chat to call for backup (/f to call for backup for an IC situation).
• Asking a player for his location or to turn his phone on over /g.
• Asking an LEO to go on duty in order to start a bank robbery.
• Requesting for backup through voice chats (discord/teamspeak etc').

Power Gaming - Performing an action your character is not capable of, forcing another player into an RP situation, or forcing yourself out of an RP situation.
A few common examples:
• Forcing another player into a roleplay/IC situation (robbing or frisking a tabbed/afk player).
• Forcing an action on another player and not giving them enough time to roleplay back.
• Jumping off a roof with a cuffed person.
• Dragging a cuffed player to the other side of the city in order to arrest him.
• Frisking a player without initiating physical contact.
• Ejecting a player from your vehicle without initiating a roleplay situation.

Power Gaming has many examples. The easiest way to comply with this rule is not to do anything ICly that you're incapable of doing IRL.

Avoiding an RP situation - Avoiding a roleplay situation is prohibited. You may not tab/run away and ignore an RP situation.
• Refusing to Roleplay is no longer an option, and will result in a harsh punishment as per our server rules
• Intentionally drowning or damaging your vehicle in order to make it explode during a pursuit or to avoid arrest.

Non-RP Behavior - Behaving in an unrealistic way.
• You must NOT abuse server mechanics to gain an advantage.
  • You MUST remain in character at all times. If an issue arises, you must continue to roleplay the scene out, and then submit a report after the incident. (an exception to this is gross roleplay (i.e. IC rape, etc.)
  • You may NOT use the radio, or call out any information while downed.
  • Cop-Baiting: You may NOT commit crimes in the proximity of officers to initiate a chase, arrest, escalation, etc. without a valid roleplay reason. (Examples of this would include but are not limited to, driving recklessly in the presence of police, purposefully re-initiating a pursuit, and antagonizing officers without a valid roleplay reason.
  • Randomly shooting the walls or other players.

Value of life (falls under Non-RP behavior) - Not fearing death in an unrealistic way
• You must realistically fear for your life when threatened with a weapon, or other dangerous means.
• Do NOT antagonize groups/gangs/armed individuals without a proper roleplay reason.

Mass Recruiting - Inviting a player into your gang/faction without having any roleplay involved.
• You must roleplay inviting a player into your gang/faction. The only exception to this rule is when your gang application has been accepted and you want to invite your starting members.
• The roleplay requirement exists to make sure the player you invite has knowledge of what roleplay is.

Scamming - is completely forbidden in lawless roleplay. It involves tricking another player by promising a service or item in exchange for payment and then intentionally not delivering what was agreed upon, or vice versa.
  • Players below level 10 cannot be scammed, nor can they be involved in any scamming scenarios, (You must roleplay scamming someone according to our RP rules)
  • Scammers are not allowed to scam another player for more than $20,000 in cash or the value of items.
  • Any player caught aiding in a scam, such as assisting in hiding the scammed money or any related activities, will be held responsible for their actions.
  • Real-life payment scams, except for donations to Lawless Roleplay, are not covered by our staff and are solely the individuals' responsibility.

Robbing - is when you force another player to give you something. Most of the cases involve taking money or other valuable items without the players’ permission.
  • Only players who are level 10 or above can rob or participate in robberies. (You must roleplay robbing someone according to our Roleplay rule.)
  • The maximum amount that can be robbed is $20,000. (or items worth $20,000)
  • A player cannot rob the same person or their accomplices within 24 hours.
  • The player initiating the robbery must give the targeted player 60 seconds to respond, if the targeted player fails to comply, attempt to escape, or refuse to pay within the given time period, the initiating player has the full right to use force, including shooting them.
  • Robberies are prohibited in public areas prone to overcrowding, including the Paintball Area, Mall and around hospitals, banks, casinos, or any government headquarters such as the LSPD, FBI, LSFMD, SA News, Army, and GOV.

General Rules Reminder

Gangs & Roleplay
• Gangs are required to roleplay every invitation with a legitimate roleplay scenario ending with a bandana handout roleplay.
• You are now required to use /f for OOC only and /pr for IC matters. Anything called on /f, /g, /ca, etc... will be considered OOC. This includes insults on /f
• You cannot '/ad Grove recruiting' anymore and must be a roleplay-friendly advertisement such as 'Grove Street Families are looking for hood protectors to continue CJ's Legacy' for example
• Gangs are preferred to roleplay everything. Roleplay doesn't have to be about /me and /do. However, roleplaying with other gangs, raiding HQs, protests or whatever shows how strong your gang is.

Non-Roleplay Invitations
Members who take an interview of an applicant must roleplay the scenario of giving out a badge by the standards of light RP. This means that both sides must show this.
