What's a weapon?

The Desert Eagle, famous and iconic pistol.
One of the most relevant and common crimes over Los Santos is the weapon business, but what do you consider a weapon?

The classic and beloved Oxford Dictionary has the answer.
Indeed a weapon is "a thing designed or used for inflicting bodily harm or physical damage."

There is - however - a problem. So why do Ammunation's exist?
Ammunation sells legal guns, that are crafted and sold under the US agreement; and also, the weapons sold by the business meet another criteria, they are weapons that are meant only for defence and they are valid in case of a justifiable homicide. Weapons without that warranty are consiered illegal.

Before the weapon

A lot of people wonders how a weapon is made. So they go to the Ammunation Weapon Factory in Las Venturas. There you can see that their weapon are made by using next generation robots, working on a 0.85 mile / 1.35km of conveyor belts. With all that conveyors, they can serve every Ammunation Gun Store for the whole San Andreas State.

The materials for the guns are delivered to the assembly line from the 3 main Materials Factiories in Los Santos; and the Material Factory takes the materials from the Material Pickup.
There is a problem. To save cash for some authorized trucks, since it's actually expensive to move 20-25 tons of materials, extortionists, as knows as matrunners for the cargo they deliver, go from the Materials Pickup, take 10 materials crates, head to the Materials Factory, delivering materials factory. The factory, to give a recompense, pays them from 275 to 350 materials.

Up: Materials Pickup 2; Down: Materials Factory 2

These "matrunners" move usually on a sports motorcycle or a sports car. The reason is because, since the job they are doing is illegal, they need a fast vehicle to get away from the Law Enforcement Officers.
It's uncinvenient to use heavy vehicles such as vans or also more capacious cars like station wagons because the dislocation of the factories are a real challenge for the cars, and also because using slow cars when chased by LSPD is unconvenient.
SInce almost every extortionist is an arms dealer, then, he uses the materials to crafts the guns, which for the more convenient price compared to the legal ammunation's ones, are rapidly sold.

Is it always illegal?

Actually, buying from unauthorized dealers is illegal, but LEOs cannot arrest you if they don't see you actively buying the gun (or advertizing for it) and if the gun is legal. So it means that if you have a 9mm bought from an arms dealer, and the cops find that, it won't be illegal. It's legal for them.

But if the weapon is illegal?
If you have bought something illegal like an AK-47, SMG, MAC-10, etc, they can arrest you. This is because it's forbidden to have certain guns that are too dangerous and that aren't suitable for justifiable homicide.

Then how do you know when a weapon is legal?
You have got a weapon but you don't know if it's illicit? There are many ways to find out when a weapon is legal or not.

  1. Taking it to a LSPD station. You bring them the gun, and they will check if it meets the standard rquirements. If the weapon is legal, then you can freely take it back home. If it's illegal, they will proceed to confiscate the gun, with a notice of illegalty, without any fine or arrest.
  2. Searching online. You can check the state laws that talk about which weapons are legal and which ones are not. Usually they will only treat about the kind of gun, not the precise model, so in the state law, "Every pistol with a caliber of 9mm is considered legal, however it mustn't have a silencer." So having a Colt45, a Beretta9, etc, is legal.
  3. Going to Ammunation. Somewhere inside of the business you will find a roster that lists all the weapons that they sell. Every weapon sold by the company is legal. Having a model listed in the roster is legal only if without modifications.

Owning a weapon

This quick paragraph will tell you everything you should do if you own a firearm.

  • You MUST NOT fire your firearm for no reason everywhere (except dedicated ares like paintball facilities). It will indeed result in an arrest with a charge of firing a weapon in a public place, or worse, terrorism.
  • You should keep your firearm discharged in every circumstance; at home, on your pocket, in your car, etc. Indeed it will save most of the preventable accidents.
  • At home, keep your guns in a safe place, like a weapon rack, and with the munition in a different place. This will minimize the chance of a thief doing a tragedy with your weapon.
  • Consult the state law if you want to buy/sell a weapon, in some states, e.g. Los Santos, Advertizing for a weapon is illegal and you will be fined with FCC Violation.
  • Once a year, you should have to check the weapon's state, by firing it in a designed area like the paintball or the shooting ranges, or take it to a local gun store if you are unexperienced with guns and so you want it to be checked by recommended personnel.

((I didn't really want to post it as a guide, like all of the Crimes Weekly, because the target of this article is to inform, not to guide to perform such illegal actions as hijacking, drug dealing, etc. It's our law to NOT endorse, condone, and encourage criminal activity.))
((That's why I posted it as an article. I will eventually post it as a guide if none had the idea before me, when I finish the "main" articles. I will adapt it to make it more like a guide. Thanks for the idea ;) ))
