The third year of the storm

When we opened Lawless Roleplay 3 years ago, we sailed the storm to create a community that was built on a solid foundation. The foundation consisted of a staff team that worked for the players to constitute a community made by the players, for the players. This foundation has resonated throughout SA-MP and we have set the gold standard.

Exactly 1,093 days ago - on the 19th April 2013 - myself, @Shock and @Leiionidas opened the gates to the server. We set out a mission statement and promised to always abide by it. We were congratulated by having over 150 players online in our first 24 hours which was contaminated with technical issues until the 22nd April 2013. This past year, we've had numerous server updates, a new admin structure, new admin departments, welcomed @Toompert into the management team, tons of events, a christmas to remember, moved from lag shooting to sync shooting and we've responded to all suggestions and bugs in a timely manner. As we go into our 3rd year of operating, we have decided with the community to dedicate this year to creating fantastic new unique features, new toolboxes for players to use to create more fun gameplay, better support, an administrative team that is always there, a better service and most importantly more fun. This is a big promise however we are dedicated to accomplish this and require your trust and guidance.

It has been a marvelous 3 years filled with emotions, fun, excitement and addiction. We have witnessed enemies fight a lot, new friendships, gangs be formed, leaders be born, rules be broken, hackers be banned, materials be ran, trucks be delivered, miners mine, drugs be smuggled, shotguns be refunded, people tazed, turfs be won, events be lost, factions go up and factions go down. We have laughed, smiled, yelled, hated, loved and fought but above all we did what we came to do: We had fun, and the fun is only starting.

We have over 2,752,518 logins, 3,543,365 connections, 232,270 registrations, 23,567 hours of uptime, 22,675 hackers auto banned, 65,579 forum threads, 467,508 forum posts and 13,830 forum accounts at time of this post.

Thank you. You have supported us over the year above and beyond what I could imagine or want - we really appreciate it. Without your consistent feedback, guidance and loyalty - we would not be where we are today. You've always been here for us and we continue to enjoy and extend our relationship with you and hopefully create many more in this upcoming year.

Lawless Roleplay is, and always, will be a community first and a game server second. We are dedicated to fostering an environment with a member-centric approach where all players have equal potential for in game success and community recognition.

Why play here?
Lawless Roleplay was originally founded on the principle that all players should rise or decline based on the actions of the person behind the player. We feel that success should be determined by a players actions and talents and not the whim of an administrative team. We have great code. We have great staff. We have great players. But most importantly we have a vigilant regard for your potential.

Is this a roleplay server?
We have worked to provide many in game tools for roleplay and it is absolutely encouraged however not required. We feel that any preferred mode of play that does not encroach on any other player’s enjoyment of the game is productive. Due to the harsh nature of game mode frequent player versus player violent interaction should be expected. However, this does not mean that players are allowed to kill other players for no reason.

When you have a code as complex as ours with over 110,500 lines, there are many functions, levers and gears. And at any of these points, an issue can arise and disrupt a player's gameplay. We have laid the code flat and have reviewed engagement tunnels for potential issues. More importantly, we have adapted our code and genetics to use modern efficient systems which require less CPU, faster processing and less memory.

Our last global pardon was done on the 1st January 2015. As we move into our third year of operations, it is time to welcome back our lost friends and foes to the server. However, we have been receiving feedback regarding this choice. Some feel that those excluded from the community should not be welcomed back. We have reviewed this feedback and came to the conclusion that, while we respect your opinion on building a stable foundation, we must all be reminded that we are playing a video game. We encourage fun and want everyone to have chances at being good citizens of Lawless Roleplay. We need to give people second chances and in the end of the day, we are all human and make mistakes. As a precaution, we have deleted all accounts which have been not used since 1st Jan 2015 (407 accounts) and all banned accounts not used since 4th April 2015 (6,708).

As of this update, we have wiped all bans from the server. They do not need to appeal. They just need to log in! Tell your friends and foes!! Let's have some more fun together...

UPDATE 0.9.05!

Jingle bells.. jingle bells.. Oh wait, it's over. Now that the Christmas festivities is finally over, it's time for our annual winter update with awesome events, minigames and idlewood street parties. This update sees many bug fixes, a bucket of snow, winter events, a special gift store and the addition of a new minigame. This winter will be a special one at Lawless Roleplay. But first, let's have our traditional mission statement speech.

We're really excited about spending the winter holidays with our players because of what we've got cooking in the pipelines. This is only the start of a series of events. We have a very new addition to the winter update which is a series of events by our public relations team. There are great competitions and even greater giveaways. Winter Madness!

Our Winter Wonderland is now open with special minigames that let you win crazy prizes. We'd be hosting contests, giveaways and parties here so check it out often! This year we have some special new additions to get you into the winter festivities. We have our old maze and climbing minigames open but with the addition of a new minigame designed to drop your jaws. We also have a special winter radio genre and a radio blasting some of the best winter songs in minigames and the winter park.

From the moment you join the server, you'll notice that we're really in the festive spirit at Lawless with Christmas songs playing whilst you log in. There will be continuous snowing all over Los Santos however this detects your FPS and tackles any lag problems pre-hand. So if you don't see snow falling from the skies, this will be due to your FPS and the script making sure you don't lag. Additionally, our wonderful mapping department has worked together to really produce a very festive map customisation all over Los Santos. You'll find Christmas trees scattered around popular hang outs all over Los Santos. And as a very special addition, the Mayor of Los Santos has funded extra Christmas lights all over popular Los Santos places.

Santa has had a crash!

Santa's sleigh got hit by AK-47 bullets whilst flying over Grove Street and has crash landed in Flint County! He needs your help to deliver as many gifts as you can. And as a reward, he promises to give the top 20 helpers very special presents! What you need to do is pick up a gift from his crash site and deliver it to Los Santos. Each time you do this, you will enter the raffle. The more times you enter the raffle, the better your chances are at winning one of the top 20 presents. The raffle results will be released on the 10th January.

It's Winter in Los Santos!

Let it snow! Oh.. let it snow baby.. Whilst it's not a white winter this year in many places, the gods of San Andreas have blessed us with snow. The Government has also used money seized from Wolly Thane's gang empire to pay for mystical lights all around Los Santos which clearly means it will be night time throughout the winter festival! Oh yeah... this is the small print that only a few people will read. There is a pink easter egg in Los Santos. Find it and send a screenshot of it to me to get Ivy for life time. Only one winner so be quick.

Maze Minigame

Which door he asks.. The maze minigame tests your luck and instincts to see if you can survive through the harsh and cruel maze. We have new additions to this maze to make things exciting. You can earn up to 8 winter credits by completing this minigame (more on this below).

Climbing Minigame

The climbing minigame was closed down last year due to safety fears however it's now open after the Government decided to hire some builders to fix the escalators! In this minigame, you need to climb several obsticals and reach the finishing line. You can earn up to 10 winter credits by completing this minigame (more on this below).

NEW Falling Crates Minigame

In this year, we have the addition of a falling crates minigame. It requires 10 friends to start a round in which peices of the floor (crates) fall down and the surviving player wins. You can earn up to 14 winter credits by completing this minigame (more on this below).

Update 0.8.73 Overview

We've always been a community ran by players for the players. We fuel many of our goals and aspirations from the ideas of players. Sync-shooting has been a forever long request of many members within the community. We were one of the very few servers still operating a lag shooting based community, however, we have looked into the system and came to the conclusion that lag-shooting is exploitable in many ways that is impossible to prevent with SA-MP's scripting methods. With sync-shoot, we can.

The procedure to adding sync-shoot was not a simple one. We first removed every single line of code that had anything to do with detecting health, armor or weapon hacks so we can start with a fresh clean canvas. We then looked at all of the issues and concerns from the players. We worked with these players to create very complex and comprehensive detection method to eliminate player concerns regarding third-party cheats/modifications. We then looked at the far-too-easy killing nature of sync-shooting and created our own sync-shoot damage system.

Damage from weapons now depend on several factors such as the player's movement, angle, the weather (rain or wind), the body part hit, the distance, luck, and the weapon used. This introduces a new dimension of tactical play. Players will now need to consider their position, cover and where they should be aiming.

Our in-house coded observation cheat K-Liner has received an upgrade that is hard-coded in a way to now analyse every single detail by looking deeply into packets sent by the player. This is used to detect cheats in a deep way that tracks a player's habits and other useful information. The information is then used to assist admins in cleansing the server of parasitic cheaters.

We've always been committed to making this server a place where everyone is welcomed. We understand that many people make the wrong decisions and with the new C.O.C.K. system, we can finally set players back on the right path. We are very strong believers of second chances and fresh starts. We want to offer every single person banned before 19th September 2015 an unban, this includes all permanent and temporary bans. We have bit the bullet and unbanned every single IP that was ever banned. The banned accounts remain banned and if you would like to unlock your old account, all you have to do is post a ban appeal and wait patiently for an unban. This is just so we can ensure that no exploited or spoofed accounts get active again.

If you are banned or know someone that is banned then they will need to post a ban appeal so we can unban them.

Scheduled Maintenance

To ensure the highest security and performance levels for our services, we're applying a hardware and software update on our servers. To minimize the user impact, the updates are scheduled at the most convenient hours and will take up to eight hours to complete.

During the maintenance procedure the website, SA-MP server and TeamSpeak will be offline for the full duration of the maintenance. The maintenance procedure will be commencing on Friday 25th September.
